Apple Store offline Image

The online Apple Store is currently “being updated” and visitors are faced with the following page above.  Could the long awaited refreshed MacBook Pros be arriving?  It’s possible, however Apple technical support claims that they are running maintenance on the store.  Although, Apple wouldn’t necessary tell us what they’re up to if they were, indeed, adding some new MacBook Pros.  Either way, we’ll find out soon enough if some new Pros will be hitting the store soon.

Update: Back online, appears to have no changes.

Update 2: The maintenance that Apple did on the online store included updates to the checkout process and shipping validation pages and added a new look to the overall checkout process.

Charlie Miller discovers MacBook security hole, could cause explosions

apple laptop battery

According to Forbes, Charlie Miller managed to cause seven of the MacBook batteries useless after completely gaining access to their micro-controllers’ firmware via a security hole. It seems like this will also work with the MacBook Airs and Pros with the two passwords he dug up from an ’09 software update. Someone could use this security hole to cause major destruction, including false charge levels and causing them to explode. Malware installed in the battery could infect a computer continuously, until a new battery is inserted. In August, he will report this vulnerability in detail at the Black hat security conference along with a fix he came up with called Caulkgun, which locks out updates from Apple as a side effect. Since MacBooks have non-removable batteries, better safe than sorry!
