Meizu M9/MX to get Flyme OS 1.0 in June

Remember the M9 and MX from Meizu in China? Well, it looks like they’re also getting the ICS treat in June, which will be just in time for summer so those two phones can enjoy the cool treat.

Flyme OS 1.0 is Meizu’s customized version of Android ICS. Although Meizu has promised to release both a customized and stock version of ICS, there’s no current information on the stock version yet. However, most of the Meizu community is happy enough to receive the ICS upgrade soon, and we do hope to have a review of it for everyone when it comes out. Check out the press-release after the break.

Following the official announcement of the Meizu MX, the “dream phone” is now on track for release on January 1st, 2012 at a price of 2,999 CNY (Around $470 USD). Yes, on New Years, just like the Meizu M9 launch last year. However, what’s different is that the phone will also be launched in the Meizu Store in Hong Kong, signifying Meizu’s first step outside mainland China. Also, due to the difference in taxes, the price in Hong Kong will be 3,099 HKD, which is about $400 USD. As always, the company will focus on satisfying pre-orders first, with a limited supply for walk-in customers.

Meizu MX officially announced, the “Dream Phone” gets real

Meizu MX SmartphoneMeizu has officially announced the MX smartphone, after many rumors and leaks from various media. Meizu is planning to expand to the USA, CEO compares it with the movie ‘Up’

Meizu is moving to California

Meizu is planning to open an office in California, USA. This move is quite unexpectedly, because Meizu is strictly pointed at the Chinese domestic market. In forum posts on the official Meizu BBS, Meizu CEO Jack Wong compares this move with the flying house in the movie Up. This movement will probably mean better overseas customer support, and that Meizu is going to sell products officialy in other countries. There’re no further details available on this yet.

Meizu MX dual-core Android smartphone comes with 4-inch screen

Meizu MXPreviously known as the Meizu M9II, the Meizu MX (think M10) is an highly anticipated smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer Meizu. Today, Meizu CEO just released a photo of a Meizu MX dummy phone, which shows an updated design when compared to the Meizu M9, where the backside is now white, and shows more rounded corners. Meizu MX specifications include a 4-inch 960×640 high resolution screen, 1GB RAM and a 1GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor. Packed into a 63.5 x 119 x 9.5 mm shell, the Meizu MX is expected to cost 3580 RMB (which is around $550 USD or €380 EUR). The Meizu MX will most likely run on Gingerbread Android 2.3.

HTC is now worth more than both Nokia and RIM

HTC worth more than nokia rimNot entirely unexpected, HTC is now worth more than both Nokia and RIM (creators of the BlackBerry smartphones). After yesterday’s stock market closing in TSEC Taipei, HTC’s market cap was at $33.8 billion, compared to Nokia’s $32.84 billion and RIM’s $28.5 billion.

Compared to five years ago, HTC has seen a 3,000% growth, much thanks to the Google Android strategy they are currently pursuing. While some analysts seem to believe that HTC is poised to grow even further in the future, we at the thegadgetsite aren’t so sure about this.

Meizu M9 Review

Meizu M9When Chinese MP3 player manufacturer Meizu decided to reinvent themselves as a mobile phone company, they first released the Meizu M8 back in 2008. The M8 wasn’t really suited for international users, which left quite a few people dissappointed. Now, two years after the M8, comes the Meizu M9 which launched to huge queues all over China. For those unfamiliar to the Meizu M9, it’s an Android 2.2 smartphone with a 1GHz CPU, world-class UI and a high definition 960×640 resolution display. Most importantly, it only costs 2,500 RMB unlocked, which is equivalent to $380 dollars or €270 euros.

We managed to get our hands on a M9 a while back, and have now used it long enough to review it. Have Meizu applied their learnings from their previous phone and created the perfect smartphone this time around? Stick around to find out.

The Meizu M9 has already hit the 2011 sales target in Q1

According to Meizu Me and the official Meizu BBS, the Meizu M9 has already hit Meizu’s total sales target for 2011 in just Q1. Due to this, Meizu CEO Jack Wong wouldn’t lower the M9′s current price.

Meizu M9 unboxing and hands-on

Meizu M9 packaging boxDespite the Meizu M9′s epic launch on 1/1/2011 and stock shortages, we’ve managed to obtain a Meizu M9. First thoughts? It’s obvious fact that Meizu has taken a few design cues from Apple iPhone box, but somehow they’ve still managed to make it look uniquely different. Everything is neatly packed and tucked in, and the space allocation has been very well thought out. The Meizu M9 itself is very well built and is relatively lightweight, and the screen is just gorgeous. Want more? Stay tuned for our review. For now, enjoy our unboxing shots.
