iPad 3 30-pin connection port leaked, shows a possibly upgraded port

iPad 3 dock connectorIt’s about time for an iPad 3 leak. New images are showing off the alleged 30-pin port on the iPad 3. While this might not sound like a big deal at first, there are a couple of changes that seem subtle but interesting. First of all, the connector inside of the port is white. On the iPad 2, the connector was black on both the black and white models. Secondly, the rest of the connector continues to form a 90 degree angle. On previous iPad models, the connector continues straight to later connect to the motherboard.

What do these changes mean? We have no idea. However, there might be more to the story that can’t be seen in the pictures. For example, this might be a faster connection than the old 30-pin connection systems. These couple of changes were enough for this connection system to get an upgraded part number. Previous connectors earned the part number 821-1180-A. This new connector will be called 821-1259-06. Going from 1180 to 1259 appears to be an upgrade, however it’s not entirely clear on how Apple’s part numbering system works.

We might just find out what this is all about this Fall, when it is rumored that Apple will break the standard iOS device refresh cycle to release the iPad 3 before the end of the year.

iPad 3, iPhone 5 part manufacturers ready to go

Apple part manufacturers of iPhone 5, iPad 3

DigiTimes reports that a Taiwan based company, the one that will be making the parts for the next generation iPhone and iPad have began preparing materials needed for the iPhone 5 & iPad 3. In the report, there are information claiming that Apple will unveil the devices in September ahead of the October launch. There are not much details in the reports, though it mentions that the iPad 3 will be thinner than the current model and not only that but it may have a 250dpi display. According to anonymous industry sources, Apple will take it slow on the beginning for the production of the iPhone 5 and than it will pick ip the pace!

iPad 3 and iPhone 5 to have 4G LTE, according to LulzSec

iPad 3

LulzSec left with a bang.  Before powering down their efforts, they released tons of classified information from numerous websites.  Some of that information came from AT&T.  Leaked documents confirm that AT&T is continuing their work on launching a 4G LTE network.  Some of that work includes device testing, which was clearly outlined in these leaked documents.  One of the devices that AT&T will be testing on 4G LTE is the iPad.  If all goes well, we should be seeing a 4G LTE iPad 3 in the future.  Below is an excerpt from one of the documents:

Pre-LTE scenarios:  Testing will include iPad new activations HLS using the new rate plan, as well as a regression on netbooks and dongles.  During validation E2E execution should ensure all functionality new and current is still functioning properly by validating account set up, provision, usage and notifications.

Sticking to more recent news, the documents classify the iPhone as a “possible” 4G-capable device.  This means that the next generation iPhone may or may not have 4G.  Whatever the case, it is almost a given that the iPhone 6 will have 4G due to all of the competition in the smartphone market and the growing need for speed.  Leaked documents also claim that the iPhone 5 will be released in September, during the 4G testing phases.  A leaked calendar points to a July 2011 launch of the network in Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

iPad 3 to have retina display, according to iOS 5 files

iOS 5 Graphics ResolutionWe have discovered that there are higher resolution images hidden in iOS 5, a sign of support for a retina display appearing on the iPad 3.  First of all, a portion of Newsstand was found in two versions: 768×400 and 1536×800.  The second version is double the size of the first.  Secondly, some images from the Twitter integration clocked in at a whopping 1,536×2,048, double the resolution of the iPad 2 (which is 768×1024).  These new findings not only show that the iPad 3 may have a retina display, but it also shows that the iPad 3 is right around the corner, maybe around when iOS 5 is released.  Why do we say this?  When the iPhone 4 was released with a retina display, a software update to iOS was released to optomize graphics for the higher resolution display.  However, these graphics are already optomized for a high resolution display.  Therefore, Apple may be planning on releasing the iPad 3 either with iOS 5 or close to the iOS 5 release date.

Samsung demands to see iPad 3 and iPhone 4S before release

Samsung Apple lawsuit3… 2… 1… FIGHT! Samsung and Apple have been battling it out for a while, ever since Apple sued Samsung for design infringement and Samsung countersued. After the countersuit, Apple won early access to Samsung’s future phones/tablets, and now we’re seeing Samsung trying to avenge the ruling by demanding to see the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 early.

In the photo above, we can see the motion filed by Samsung’s lawyers that demand Apple to divulge their plans for the future “final, commercial version(s)” of the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, along with the iPad 3. According to Samsung, these devices will be released at roughly the same time as the DROID Charge and the Galaxy Tab 10.1, so they’d like to see if they show enough similarity to Apple’s products. If this is the case, Samsung can then begin preparing potential legal action.

iPhone, iPod, & iPad may have secondary display for improved notification system

A recently discovered patent filed by Apple reveals that Apple is (or at least was) working on making a secondary display around the main display of a new iPhone, iPod touch, and possibly the iPad.  This secondary display could be used for improved notifications, such as showing missed calls, emails, text messages, and even push notifications from apps.  Other reports have already shown that Apple is working on a hybrid display for the iPad, so maybe we will see a complete redesign of the front of iOS devices to include both the hybrid display and the secondary display.

Apple inside sources says the iPad 3 may be worth waiting on

iPad 3The iPad 2 has now been officially announced by Apple. But if an alleged Apple staffer is to be believed, it may be wise to skip the iPad 2 and wait for the iPad 3 instead. An Apple staffer, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said “For the iPad 2 don’t get your hopes up too high. That’s all I’m going to say. They’ve had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about.” While today’s iPad 2 announcement got many excited, the lack of a screen resolution upgrade has left many fans disappointed. Normally, Apple refreshes their products every year. However, this time around, rumors are saying that we might see the iPad 3 during Q3 2011 already.
