It’s about time for an iPad 3 leak. New images are showing off the alleged 30-pin port on the iPad 3. While this might not sound like a big deal at first, there are a couple of changes that seem subtle but interesting. First of all, the connector inside of the port is white. On the iPad 2, the connector was black on both the black and white models. Secondly, the rest of the connector continues to form a 90 degree angle. On previous iPad models, the connector continues straight to later connect to the motherboard.
What do these changes mean? We have no idea. However, there might be more to the story that can’t be seen in the pictures. For example, this might be a faster connection than the old 30-pin connection systems. These couple of changes were enough for this connection system to get an upgraded part number. Previous connectors earned the part number 821-1180-A. This new connector will be called 821-1259-06. Going from 1180 to 1259 appears to be an upgrade, however it’s not entirely clear on how Apple’s part numbering system works.
We might just find out what this is all about this Fall, when it is rumored that Apple will break the standard iOS device refresh cycle to release the iPad 3 before the end of the year.

We have discovered that there are higher resolution images hidden in iOS 5, a sign of support for a retina display appearing on the iPad 3. First of all, a portion of Newsstand was found in two versions: 768×400 and 1536×800. The second version is double the size of the first. Secondly, some images from the Twitter integration clocked in at a whopping 1,536×2,048, double the resolution of the iPad 2 (which is 768×1024). These new findings not only show that the iPad 3 may have a retina display, but it also shows that the iPad 3 is right around the corner, maybe around when iOS 5 is released. Why do we say this? When the iPhone 4 was released with a retina display, a software update to iOS was released to optomize graphics for the higher resolution display. However, these graphics are already optomized for a high resolution display. Therefore, Apple may be planning on releasing the iPad 3 either with iOS 5 or close to the iOS 5 release date.
3… 2… 1… FIGHT! Samsung and Apple have been battling it out for a while, ever since
A recently discovered patent filed by Apple reveals that Apple is (or at least was) working on making a secondary display around the main display of a new iPhone, iPod touch, and possibly the iPad. This secondary display could be used for improved notifications, such as showing missed calls, emails, text messages, and even push notifications from apps.
