Supposed Galaxy S III leaks again, with rounded glass

Another post, another leak! As we come closer and closer to Samsung’s official unveiling date for the Galaxy S III, another picture of what it claims to be the device itself shows up. The above picture, obtained from SamMobile, shows the Galaxy S III with the label GT-I9300 and rounded glass, similar to the Lumia devices. Although we don’t believe this is the actual device itself, it may be a prototype as we’re pretty sure that there wouldn’t be a hardware button. But then again, we won’t know until the day of the event. Keep checking in, and we’ll keep you posted!

Samsung Canada beings ICS rollout today

Samsung is currently the largest Android phone manufacturer and seller; however, Ice Cream Sandwich has still not shown up on Samsung’s devices (not officially), until today, that is. For the first time ever, Canada begins the rollout of Samsung’s TouchWiz-flavoured ICS to select devices continuously. The list includes the Galaxy S II (with all its variants), the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Tabs. However, be patient about it as these update rollouts can take a long time. Can’t wait? Give the manual update method a try.

Sony adds more code to Android than any other

Anyone know why Sony was able to release ICS to their Tablet S less than five months after it was released? Well, it was probably because of this: according to an engineer at Google, Sony contributes more lines of code to the Android Open Source Project than any other manufacturer, which gives them an advantage with their existing hardware.

This should also reassure Sony Ericsson phone users that an upgrade is imminent for their devices. They have already released beta versions of ICS for the Arc and Arc S, along with other phones to ensure stability before releasing to the general public. So, rest assured that the update is coming!

Meizu M9/MX to get Flyme OS 1.0 in June

Remember the M9 and MX from Meizu in China? Well, it looks like they’re also getting the ICS treat in June, which will be just in time for summer so those two phones can enjoy the cool treat.

Flyme OS 1.0 is Meizu’s customized version of Android ICS. Although Meizu has promised to release both a customized and stock version of ICS, there’s no current information on the stock version yet. However, most of the Meizu community is happy enough to receive the ICS upgrade soon, and we do hope to have a review of it for everyone when it comes out. Check out the press-release after the break.

ASUS Transformer needs to wait a bit longer to take a bite out of ICS, probably March

It looks like Google’s temporarily holding ASUS Transformer users back from taking a big bite out of ICS. Last time we heard, ASUS submitted the update to Google for approval, but now the earlier “mid-February” deadline has passed. Instead, the company just announced that the update will land February/March, which is pretty vague. For now, just sit back and enjoy Honeycomb, at least until an Ice Cream Sandwich is delivered over-the-air for your Transformer.

Onda Vi30W, Shanzai Android 4.0 ICS tablet in the wild?

Onda Vi30W TabletA video has appeared on YouTube where Colonel Zap reviews a Chinese tablet, running Android 4.0 ICS. It is called the Onda Vi30W, and is supposed to be the first tablet running this OS. The Onda Vi30W runs on a Allwinner (yes, that’s the real name of the company) A10 processor which is supposed to be clocked at 1.5GHz, but only runs on 1GHz in the current firmware. The screen is an 8 inch capacitive model, with a resolution of (only) 800×600 pixels. It only has 512MB RAM, but its price of only 180USD (€140) make the shortcomings acceptable. Full video review by Colonel Zap after the break.

Meizu MX officially announced, the “Dream Phone” gets real

Meizu MX SmartphoneMeizu has officially announced the MX smartphone, after many rumors and leaks from various media. According to official specifications, most of the rumors were correct: the Meizu MX has a 4-inch screen, with a resolution of 960×640 pixels; it’s powered by a Samsung Exynos 4210 dual-core SOC, clocking in at 1.4GHz; there’s 1GB of RAM and a 16GB storage on-board. However, the phone uses a micro-sim, which may cause some trouble for users. Onboard is Meizu’s Flyme OS, which is a heavily modified version of Android Gingerbread. The Meizu MX will be released on January 1st, 2012 and will cost 2999CNY (€355 and 475USD). Are you getting one?

Android Ice Cream Sandwich accidentally installed on unsuspecting eBayer’s phone (video)

Android Ice Cream Sandwich leakThe highly anticipated coming version of Android, dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich, is going to be officially released within the next two months. Now however, we have a detailed, two-minute video showing off the looks and features of Ice Cream Sandwich. An unsuspecting buyer bought a Google Nexus S on eBay, and to his surprise, found it was running on the unreleased Ice Cream Sandwich version (build IRK48 and kernel 3.0.1) of Android. This buyer then made a video of Ice Cream Sandwich, and then posted it online. Here’s where it gets freaky: shortly after publishing the video, his phone was remotely locked and wiped, most likely by someone from Google, something which also helps to prove the authenticity of the video. Watch the video below, where you’ll see a lot of changes to both apps, the UI and functionality.

Google Nexus Prime specs leaked, including Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Ice Cream Sandwich phoneOne of the first Ice Cream Sandwich phones was just leaked into the media’s hands. No, we’re not referring to phones made out of ice cream sandwiches! We’re talking about Android 4.0, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich. Android 4.0 is the next major update to the Android OS, hopefully bringing some more goodies to the Android robot world. But what’s an operating system without a phone? Say “hello” to the Google Nexus Prime, or at least that’s what we think it will be called. We don’t know much about this guy, but we hear that it will sport a large 720p super AMOLED display, 4G, and an OMAP440 processor. It will be manufactured by Samsung. Rumor has it that we will be seeing this new Nexus sometime before Thanksgiving.

Are you excited for an Ice Cream Sandwich party?

Android 3.2 Honeycomb coming soon to a tablet near you

Android Mascot

Just a month after Google released Android 3.1 Honeycomb, they are now working on Android 3.2 Honeycomb.  This update to the tablet-only operating system will be rolling out to most Android Honeycomb tablets within a few weeks.  The Huawei MediaPad is the lucky one to already have 3.2.  Of course, with all Android devices, the device manufacturer is responsible for releasing the update.  Therefore, check with your tablet’s manufacturer to see if and when they will be releasing the 3.2 update.

So what’s new in 3.2?  First of all, Google has realized that fragmentation is a big problem among Android devices.  This fragmentation is caused by the various screen sizes across devices that run Android.  Google claims to have added support for a wide range of display sizes.  Furthermore, they have added support for Qualcomm processors, better hardware acceleration, and updates for many built-in apps and widgets.  As always, Google has thrown in some bug fixes, as well.

After Android 3.2 Honeycomb is released, thou shall not expect another Honeycomb release.  After 3.2, we are expecting future versions to be nicknamed “Ice Cream Sandwich”.  Yum!
