HomeOS to automate your house

If you didn’t read the title, you’re probably thinking: “another mobile OS?!?!” Well, this is an operating system, but not for mobiles or computers; more specifically, it’s for your home. Microsoft’s research arm has started testing HomeOS, which aims to let you control your house’s climate, security and appliances using software. There’s even some apps which give additional functions to the system like energy monitoring, remote surveillance and face-recognition. Hoping it’ll hit your house soon? Don’t hold your breath, but check out the source link to see how this actually works out in the real world.

RIM’s BlackBerry 10 development device?

Looks like we have another leak (these things seem to be happening everyday). Shown above is what’s believed to be one of RIM’s BlackBerry 10 Alpha devices that’ll be handed out during next week at BlackBerry Jam. These images was first shown at Crackberry’s forum, and it seems like this touchscreen-no-keyboard BlackBerry shares a similar design with the PlayBook. Again, this is likely to be a testing device, so this will probably not show up at any retail stores; but if you really want one, be sure to check Ebay or Craigslist as we’re sure it’ll be there.

Apple co-founder loves his Lumia

Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder, was happy to share that he loves his Lumia. He went on and on about how intuitive the interface is and how the apps flow perfectly. Furthermore, he states that there’s nothing he’s seen that isn’t more beautiful on the Windows system, but he claims that Android is “no contest” on the interface. He admits he’s not a fan of the Windows voice control function, but the rest is definitely there. However, he admits that his default phone is still the iPhone, and it’s 2 of them.

Sony Experia ST21i leaks, full of Ice Cream Sandwich

Although this phone isn’t as powerful and slim as some other Xperias, but this is a good entry level phone. This thick, 3.2-inch device includes an 800MHz Qualcomm chip with 512MB of RAM, a 3-megapixel camera and a 640 x 480 screen res. Although the specs don’t look too spiffy, this is already running on ICS, in which the other Xperias are still waiting for a taste of it. No word on when we’ll see an official introduction or in-stores, but if you like it, check the source link for a few more photos.

Sony adds more code to Android than any other

Anyone know why Sony was able to release ICS to their Tablet S less than five months after it was released? Well, it was probably because of this: according to an engineer at Google, Sony contributes more lines of code to the Android Open Source Project than any other manufacturer, which gives them an advantage with their existing hardware.

This should also reassure Sony Ericsson phone users that an upgrade is imminent for their devices. They have already released beta versions of ICS for the Arc and Arc S, along with other phones to ensure stability before releasing to the general public. So, rest assured that the update is coming!

Samsung announces 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad for Galaxy S3

Today, Samsung announced that the Exynos 4 Quad is already in production and will be part of Samsung’s next Galaxy smartphone that will be announced in May (the Galaxy S3). Samsung reports that the new processor will have twice the processing power over its predecessor because of HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) technology, along with around 20% energy saved. Hankil Yoon, Senior VP of Product Strategy Team at Samsung tells us that the next Galaxy device “offers uncompromised performance and ground-breaking multitasking features”. Also, Samsung says that it has already passed around the processor to other handset manufacturers and that consumers should see these soon after the Galaxy S3 (like the Meizu MX quad-core).

Google Drive revealed: 5GB of free storage with upgrade options, Google Doc integration

After Microsoft released its SkyDrive app and gave everyone 7GB of free storage (25GB for old users) to compete with Dropbox, Google also unveiled its service today, labelled Google Drive. This is the rumored cloud storage that Google has been preparing for a while, and users can now attempt to upgrade (attempt because Google is slowly rolling it to users worldwide). What’s different from Dropbox is that Google Drive is tightly integrated with Google Docs, allowing documents to be edited online, like Microsoft’s Skydrive.

5GB is provided for free, along with the option of purchasing additional data: 25GB for $2.49 per month, 100GB for $4.99 per month, and 1TB costing $49.99 per month, with a maximum of 16TB (although we don’t get why anyone will need that much and have the bandwidth to upload that amount). Anyhow, stay tuned for our detailed look at it when we receive the upgrade!

Meizu M9/MX to get Flyme OS 1.0 in June

Remember the M9 and MX from Meizu in China? Well, it looks like they’re also getting the ICS treat in June, which will be just in time for summer so those two phones can enjoy the cool treat.

Flyme OS 1.0 is Meizu’s customized version of Android ICS. Although Meizu has promised to release both a customized and stock version of ICS, there’s no current information on the stock version yet. However, most of the Meizu community is happy enough to receive the ICS upgrade soon, and we do hope to have a review of it for everyone when it comes out. Check out the press-release after the break.

Samsung teases next Galaxy phone with an anagram

Look’s like marketing is getting more creative, as Samsung released a teaser for their upcoming Galaxy phone. Along with the above counter, the anagram “tgeltaayehxnx” was also given, and our guess is “the next galaxy”. Anyways, Samsung’s promising to “take the next step” in around 3 hours and hopefully, it’ll give us a preview of the phone, although there has already been a few leaks. Could Samsung be releasing information on the phone before the May 3rd unveiling? We’ll know in 3 hours!
