
Still hot from the oven, the new Sony NW-Z1000 is a mp3 player with Android 2.3 Gingerbread that is sure to pack a punch against the iPod Touch.
The unit features a 4.3″ 480×800 display and is powered by the roaring Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU @ 1 GHz and 512 MB RAM. BAM!
The Sony Z1000 will start shipping to Japanese customers in October; the rest of us will have to wait until December. It comes in three flavours from 16, 32 to 64 GB storage; and in red, blue or purple. Prices start at approx €269 ($365).

Plastic Logic 100 is a new, a 10.7-inch electronic e-reader from Plastic Logic targeted at classrooms. Measuring a mere 7.65mm thick and weight of 475g, the Plastic Logic 100 has a 1280 x 960 touchpad display and a week’s battery life through using its plastic based e-paper technology. This new e-reader is said to be shatterproof, and have a screen that’s both anti-glare and anti-fingerprint, with a housing made in soft-touch plastic. Powering the Plastic Logic 100 is a 800MHz CPU running Windows CE, a 4GB flash harddrive, and Plastic Logic’s proprietary software featuring a swipe-controlled user interface. Connectivity options are rather limited, as the device only supports microUSB. As for the software, underlining and annotation is supported, the latter through the use of an on-screen touch-based keyboard. Arriving later this month in Russian classrooms, this e-reader will come preloaded with 40 textbooks and cost 12,000 Rubles, which is approximately $400 USD.

Hitachi’s G-Technology has released an external HDD with insane amounts of storage, namely 8TB. This new storage house called the G-RAID has a dual-drive setup within a sleek Apple-esque aluminum enclosure. Each hard drive clocks in at 7,200 RPM. According to Hitachi, the G-RAID is configured for OS X’s file system, sporting a Thunderbolt port that can transfer files at up to 10Gbps. G-Technology will start shipping 4TB versions October with eSATA, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0, but the 8TB Thunderbolt G-RAID drive won’t store shelves until Q4. I’ve always been thinking about why there haven’t been many candybar Android phones with physical numpads, and here it come; the eAccess Smart Bar phone by Huawei. This interesting smartphone features old-school design, together with physical buttons as well as a 3-inch, 311 DPI, high density touchscreen. The Smart bar comes packed with a 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 SoC, 512MB of memory, a 5 megapixel camera and Gingerbread Android. Connectivity-wise, there’s support for 802.11n (with tethering), Bluetooth 2.1, IrDA, 2100 and 1700MHz 3G support, and also tri-band 1900/1800/900MHz GSM capabilities. The Smart Bar will sell for approximately ¥29,800, which is around $385 USD when it goes on sale on September 22 in Japan in the colors black, brown or white.
