Sony Xperia Z could turn Sony’s mobile market-share around

Sony has always been an innovative company but I’ve always had a problem with how Sony has monetized it.  Sony makes phones exceptional camera sensors, LCD displays, precision build quality, and exceptional specifications and battery life but Sony has spread its innovation across its broad product line and sold them each with its own gimmick. However, the Xperia Z is different. With the Xperia Z, we experience the best of Sony in a single smartphone.

The Xperia Z is receiving lots of attention and it really is the best of Sony in a smartphone.

I hate to say this but let’s start off by looking at the specs:

  • Weight: 146 g
  • Thickness 7.9 mm
  • Display: 1920 x 1080 pixels, 5 inch (443 ppi pixel density)
  • 13.1 MP rear facing camera with 1080p video recording @30fps
  • 2.2 MP front-facing camera with 1080p video recording @30fps
  • 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU by Qualcomm (quad-core)
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16 GB internal storage with microSD card expandable storage
  • 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU by Qualcomm (quad-core)
  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • Non-removeable Li-Ion 2330 mAh battery

Special Features:

  • IP 57 certified – dust and water resistance for up to 1 meter for 30 minutes
  • HDR video recording
  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean skinned with Timescape UI
  • Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2
Looking at the specifications, Sony Xperia Z not only has top notch specifications but the smartphone itself extends beyond just specifications. Just like Apple, Sony has a strong ecosystem behind its products. If you have this Sony Xperia Z, you can easily connect it to Sony speakers, Bravia TVs and monitors wirelessly along with your PlayStation 3. Your phone can basically be your universal remote not only for your television but also for all the other Sony products in your house.

The Android market could be becoming stale with just a specification race but the Xperia Z has some special features to offer to differentiate itself from its competitors. The 1080p display’s sharpness supersedes both the popular iPhone 5′s Retina display and blows the highly-criticized 720p PenTile display on the Samsung Galaxy S3. Meanwhile, Sony continues to excel in camera technology with its 13.1 MP Exmor sensor for its rear facing camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. The 2 MP front-facing camera may not be the newest but its ability to record video at 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second makes its front camera the best for video calls.

The quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, snappy GPU and Jelly Bean aren’t the most impressive features since these features now come standard with high-end smartphones. However, the most practical feature this phone has its its waterproof build quality. Some people question why this is useful but in what way is this not useful? I’m sure you’ve heard of a story where a friend or a your friend’s friend has dropped his or her smartphone in water. Even for smaller situations, this feature can be useful. The waterproof feature makes it the smartphone usable in the rain and even underwater. You won’t have to worry about having a few drips of water or a spilled tea or coffee crashing your phone. You have assurance easier for the smartphone owner to clean the smartphone along.

The design of the phone is classy and minimalistic. With 7.9mm, this phone is almost as thin as the iPhone 5. In addition, Sony also has a battery-saving software feature called Stamina. This feature allows the user to customize background data and usage by the specific application.

This phone just has so many great features and I honestly think this is currently the best phone in the world – better than the LG Optimus G, iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC Butterfly, Nokia Lumia 920, and Samsung Galaxy Note. Out of all the Android manufacturers, Sony has the largest ecosystem of complementary consumer electronic products. And Xperia Z’s sleek design is just the icing on the cake. Delicious!

You might be drooling over the Xperia Z but you won’t be able to throw your money at Sony until March, when it’s released. In the meantime, just enjoy Sony’s video of the Xperia Z.
