Sony Xperia Go or Advance – waterproof phone finally hits the stores in the US and Canada

If you have ever experienced misery when you dropped your electronic device or phone into water, you might need a waterproof phone! But who on Earth makes waterproof phones? iPhones aren’t waterproof. Samsung’s Galaxy S3 also isn’t waterproof but Sony’s Xperia Go and Advance are!

I have spilled water on my iPod nano and my cousin has dropped her brand new iPhone 4S in the sink a week into its launch. The risks of dropping it in the water is daunting. For this reason, Sony is presenting to you the Xperia Go/Xperia Active.

They are smart, sleek and durable phones with the highest level of dust and water resistance(rated IP67) for smartphones!

This is the Xperia Go or alternatively named Xperia Advance for the US market. After months of waiting, it has finally come to stores in Canada and in the US.

It retails for $299 unlocked and is really quite a great buy if you want a reliable phone that will work even when it take a few falls, dunked in water, covered in dust. Meanwhile in Canada, the phone is available for sale at Fido. (More pricing information can be found in the second source link below.)

The Xperia advance features a 3.5″ display with a 480-by-320 pixel resolution and a scratch-resistant screen. What’s even cooler is that this phone has wet-finger tracking – this means that you can use your phone’s capacitive touchscreen even when it is raining outside.

The phone also comes with a 5MP camera capable of capturing 720P HD video, 512 MB RAM, 8GB of internal storage and 1 GHz dual core processor.

Although this phone still runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it is upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The phone comes in 3 colours:

1. Tactile black

2. Pure white

3. Warm yellow (exclusive to Sony stores)

On the other hand, watch this video if you want to be reminded of how water can ruin devices. This is an unboxing video of the new Nexus 4 phone by Google. (He “drops” his phone at around 1:50)

Sony’s waterproof devices make water-damaged electronics look silly. You could avoid experiencing this kind of misery if you get yourself a waterproof phone made by Sony.
