Apple has always raved on about the Android fragmentation but iOS faces an imposed fragmentation. Both iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S run on iOS 5, but they do not have the same features – Siri for one. Meanwhile, Android phones with updates from Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) to Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) receive all the features – from widget auto-resizing to Google Now.
Many Android phones do not get updates due to hardware limitations while iPhone 4 has no such limitation. Although the iPhone 4 is still very fast and capable, the Siri feature is excluded. With this, I can assume that iOS6 will have features excluded from the iPhone 4S as well. However, this may be because of 4G LTE and NFC connectivity.
Google Now is just like Siri. It is a unified search feature that retrieves information from the internet to answer your questions and help you accomplish tasks as your assistant.
Even though Nexus S is a phone that was released in December 2010 (almost 2 years old), the smartphone still gets the latest Android update. It has progressed from Android 2.3 to 4.0 and now at 4.1.
Not all Android phones receive OS updates but when they do, they are the real deal!
